This is not anthropomorphization but genuinely something theyre known to do. I’ve heard divers say octopuses and cuttlefish get fascinated by hand gestures and will sometimes respond to them like. We probably do look like we have little cephalopods on the ends of our arms, to them. Like we’re always putting on a puppet show.
It appears to me a lot of people’s impression of Sherlock Holmes’ drug use out of context is “he’s running around solving murders while coked out of his mind” which is really funny BUT!

My favourite thing about the D&D movie is it never stops trying to be a D&D movie even down to the most minute, unsung details. There’s initiative order gags (I’ll go last!) there’s rolling a 1 gags (setting off the trap on the bridge by inexplicably just walking up to it) there’s stat gags (nobody had high enough Intelligence to be in danger from the Intellect Devourers). Almost every spell is identifiable, from Xenk using smite to Sofina whipping out Finger of Death. Simon’s character arc is about his self-confidence being tied to his mastery of magic because Charisma is the spellcasting stat for sorcerers. The era of movies based on games being afraid of their source material is over.
And the second best thing about it is that none of this makes it inaccessible to newbies who have never played the game, it works great as a pulp fantasy story, with a truly great mix of genuine character moments and humor. It takes the subject matter seriously but also embraces the absurdity of living in a world where a cat could fall down your chimney then turn into a young woman and walk out your front door.
The best thing is that we watched it for free. And for a free movie it was a decent one. It made us laugh a few times, it made us shout “that’s not how it goes” sometimes, it made us, DMs, explain to the player what happened by simultaneously and without hesitation saying “that’s a Nat 1”.
7/10 for me. The elf girl was the weakest point, imho. She had too many wild shapes to be sure what the hell she is. But to each their own :) The sorc’s moment (you know the one) was brilliant, on the other hand. I FELT it - when you turn to your insecurity, show it your middle finger - and the realisation that you CAN do it hits you like a truck. That was golden. I needed this.
Their flagship store and New York has unionized along with 3-4 other stores! This is happening! People are tired of being seen as dollar signs and being made to work just to get to work more, to survive instead of thrive. Keep it UP.
